Sechelt Indian Government District

In 1968, the shíshálh Nation (Sechelt Indian Government District) became the first self-governing Indigenous community in Canada. Since, the shíshálh Nation has been at the forefront of the First Nations’ cultural revival and economic development and the Tsain-Ko Development Corporation—within the Sechelt Indian Government District—is evidence of this.

Tsain-Ko acts as the corporate arm of the shíshálh Nation and develops, builds, manages, and promotes businesses and facilities that will generate wealth and opportunities for Nation members, partners, and stakeholders. Tsain-Ko manages multiple companies conducting business in natural resources, land development, capacity building, and business support. On the Sechelt Indian Government District sits many facilities, amenities, and businesses that contribute to the thriving community of Sechelt (ch’atlich). Home to the tems swiya Museum, Raven’s Cry Theatre, and the Tsain-Ko Village Shopping Area which includes large retailers like the BC Liquor Store, BC Cannabis Store, Independent Grocer, and Shoppers Drug Mart. New development projects are always on the horizon and the Sechelt Indian Government District continues to be a massive contribution to the economic development and growth of the region.
